In this video we compare milking a purebred Nubian and a Mini Nubian goat!

About Sweet Briar Farm
We are a small farm located in Central/Northern Michigan. We farm every inch of our 6 acres. We breed Registered Dairy Goats, Dexter Cattle, and Heritage Hogs. Clean healthy food is important to us and we like to produce the majority of our food on the farm and we grow and raise enough to sell to local customers. Producing our own food also means we forage for wild edibles such as mushrooms and tap our maple trees in the spring to make maple syrup. In 2019 we added honeybees to the farm and have had as many as 30 active hives producing honey for us.

Our goats include Nubian goats, Mini Nubians, Fainting Goats, and Nigerian Dwarf goats.

Our Heritage Hogs include: Registered Kunekune Pigs and Hereford pigs!

We've been raising goats for about 35 yrs. Mostly Nubian but over the past few years we're developing our own line of mini-Nubian. I've found Nubians are far more needful of medications and parasite control while Nigerian seem to be way more resilient. We're early on making any full evaluation but hoping for good feed conversion with resilient health.

We started with 2 pet high quality Nubians for mesquite tree control. A pregnant show pygmy dropped in my lap & now we have 3 due over the next couple of months with two more does being bred in April

Last year I found two dn in milk for $100 each. I wanted the milk. I wasn't sure I wanted to deal with larger goats. They certainly wouldn't win any contests, but they each gave me around a half a gallon of milk each milking. So now both of those are due over the next couple of months.

I then decided I wanted more milk and bought a papered pregnant Nubian. Both sides of her lineage have adga lifetime granted grand championship status for winning so many shows. She gave us a doeling and a buckling the other day. We are keeping both, but I'm still looking for another decent buck to breed her in the future. I'm looking forward to having milk again. It's all about the milk!!

A valid and valuable comparison for people to consider . I am considering getting the Nubian for an entirely different reason. We have horses that at one time were boarded where they had Nubian. Our horses seemed to mingle and hang out with those goats while other horses did not. It seemed an odd bond was developed between them but it was very pleasing to watch. I find the Nubian pleasing to the eye and possibly a companion animal.

Can you imagine having to walk with that lump between your legs? LOL. I used to hand milk our goats as a teenager. It was powerful, I'm pretty sure I could hit a target from 30-35 feet. Now as an old lady I seriously have Popeye arms.... hahahah. Get those kids working on their forearms!!! Love your channel! You could open up the donation button, so us watchers could show you our appreciation. Have a GREAT 4th of July farming friends!!!!

After you get done making cheese or what ever you can take the whey and spray your pastures with it. It is awesome fertilizer. I learned that from my friend we are getting milk from. :)
Happy 4th of July!!

Awesome!! I was just wondering about this. Someone offered us 2 minis and I wasn't sure if they would produce enough for the family. They are from proven milk lines but now I think I will take another look. Thanks for the video.

I'm buying a goat that's half Nubian and the other half Nubian miniature, how much milk do you think I will get

I think it all depends on the goat. Now my purebred Nubian doesn’t give me anything close to my minis.

We milk Nubians. We found that what we feed makes a difference as well a conditions of the day. Milk drops after thunderstorms and hot days. What helps your does produce their best.?
