Graph Points & XY Coordinates in the Cartesian Plane - [6-4-13]

In this lesson, we will discuss the coordinate plane, the xy axes, and how to graph points in the plane using the x and y coordinates. An ordered pair of integers is always listed with the x-coordinate first, followed by a comma, followed by the y-coordinate. We construct the cartesian plane by arranging an x-axis and a y-axis at right angles to each other. Then, we plot the point by using the intersection of the x and y-coordinates. Finally, we label the point in the cartesian plane.

Where were you when I was in school😊😊😊 I became a teacher, and a pilot, I fly planes, and now because of my past difficulties in Math, I’ve focused on the ‘Why’ of Math, when I teach. As a pilot, I use Math constantly, and I let my students know that Math is translatable very closely to the real world. Why, sometimes X-axis is marked as XX' and Y-axis as YY'?
One easy method to plot the points is to draw the dashed lines at x coordinate and y coordinate and label the intersecting point.
