Muhammad Yunus, a Nobel laureate and pioneer of microfinance, has been appointed as Bangladesh's interim leader. His role is to oversee a temporary government aimed at stabilising the country after a month of political violence. This decision was made shortly after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and left the country. Mr Yunus was chosen by the student groups that led the popular uprising against her.
