You’ll learn 5 English idioms during this conversation practice video. Idioms are one of the most fun and interesting aspects of American English.

And when you learn the idioms in this kind of a context—a natural conversation—your learning will be deeper and more permanent!

You’ll sit with David and me as we’re speaking English at a conversational pace. We’ll show you how to use 5 idioms during the conversation, breaking them down and making sure you’re comfortable using them in your own daily interactions.

You get two distinct benefits from this English conversation lesson:
1) You’ll learn 5 English idioms that you can start using right away
2) You’ll get over 12 minutes of English speaking practice

In just one quick lesson you will gain a full understanding of the following English idioms:
1) The lion’s share
2) Into the lion’s den
3) A chip on his shoulder
4) It’s all Greek to me
5) Pushing my buttons

Because you’ll be learning directly from native speakers who are talking at a conversational pace it may be difficult to keep up. But by using the closed captions (and working hard!) you can get invaluable English speaking practice in addition to learning the idioms we present.

AND…you get a bonus! This one’s not quite an idiom but it’s a fun word to know: waffle!

I hope you have fun!

Not only are idioms important for non-native speakers to learn, but they are also helpful since they allow us to express ourselves better. Thank you so much, Rachel!

The word 'waffle' always makes me smile. It's used a lot here in the UK when a person takes forever to get to the point! Great video, guys!

Hi Rachel, the expression "it's all Greek to me" exist in Brazil too, the same meaning. There's a variation of that that is "He's/She's speaking Greek" that means "I don't understand what they saying". Thanks!
