Unconventional Oil. Unconventional oil explained.

• Tar sands, Heavy oil, and Oil shale are examples. The net energy from these sources is very low. EROEI is an issue. Economies dependent on cheap oil to grow won't grow with unconventional expensive oil sources.

Very true. NROE.... something to seriously consider. Great video as always :)

Start with googling "A new long term assessment of energy returned", there should be a pretty good study as a PDF file to download and read.

Eventually as the EROEI drops close to 1 petroleum will cease to be a primary source of energy. It may still be used as a feedstock for making plastics, chemicals and synthetic liquid fuels where absolutely necessary (such as for use in airplanes), but it will no longer be a primary source of energy for the economy as a whole.

I wonder too at the mindset of people who think that 100 years is a long time.

Under the Arctic has to have a low EROEI too, and that's conventional oil.

Hi, Thanks for the video. Can you guide to some reliable sources with information about the ERoEI for unconventional oil/gas? Thanks in advance.

These facts seem quite simple to comphrend yet many people buy into the hype that there is hundreds of years of fossil fuels left in this country to get out of the ground. I just tell em you will be disapointed.
