I've told my family for years that I want to donate organs or donate my body to a medical school, I never thought of it as upcycling! 💚

This is so interesting. Once again a topic that you don't even think about until the worst happens. Thanks Gittemary!

I’m 30 and already have a whole plan. There is a park near my home where you can be buried naturally in a compostable cardboard coffin and have a rock or tree for a marker instead of a tombstone.

when i die, just put me in the ground. on top of the impact, the cost of funerals is not ok

Hi! Great video! My husband and I already arranged our green burial! Our families thinks we're crazy, but we don't care... so excited!

My Auntie passed 2 years ago and she had a water lily coffin lined with linen and she was buried in the woods. Instead of a paper order of service we were given forget me not seeds in a little packet. It was perfect.. For me - I am really liking the water one! Thank you for making this video! x

As a physical anthropologist, and someone who is trying to live as sustainable life as possible this particular video is so good and important.

I don't know about you guys, but this video made me feel so much more relaxed with my own death and with death in general. Like thinking about the fact that when I die, my remains could become a tree!

Thank you Gittemary for always providing such informative videos 🌱

My mind, concerning the water burial, went immediately to: human soup, just cook till the flesh falls of the bone. 🙈
I kinda like the being smashed into fertilizer. Liquid nitrogen is awesome!

Can you talk about the impact of weddings?

Ask a Mortician is the shit! I love her channel. I think this is such an important topic that not many people think about until a death happens and there isn’t as much time or mental energy to research sustainable options that the individual would have preferred. Better to do some research and have a plan years before your loved ones need it.

Love the idea of using your ashes to feed a tree, essentially giving life from your death.

you could always put a little plaque down next to the tree with the persons name etc just so you know which tree is your loved one.

probably something I would look into for when my time eventually comes. 🌳🌳

In where I live we usually bury the dead (I'm a muslim) without using a coffin at all. Only wrap the dead body with some fabric that's it. But another problem with this method is we need more land to bury the dead. And also in here we have long tradition to visit the dead, sometimes its mandatory. That's why If we put another body on top the body that has been decomposed....sometimes it doesn't work that way..some people still want to visit the grave...Sorry for weird explanation. Love your videos!!

Hello! I work in the french funeral industry. For burial, you can choose to create a hole with concrete walls in order to preserve caskets and be able to put more than 1 person in it (i think you call it casket too in the video) or simply be put in the ground. Coffins do decompose even in environnements like this, although not as quickly, (I participated in an exhumation just this morning and saw it with my own eyes). Our coffins are made from pine and quite local wood in general and there is no plastic in our caskets. All kind of batteries are forbidden now, and the only metal parts that stay in the ground are taken back when bodies are exhumed and recycled (the metal, not the bodies)
I want to make clear that I am talking about France here and I am not saying we are the most sustainable. I don’t know what other contries do although I am very surprised that so much plastic/waste is still involved. I want to bring new burial and body disposal techniques in order to make our industry more sustainable and satisfy customers needs like body compost, aquamation etc
Funeral homes are a very old leaded industry and bringing new ideas and changing laws is hard but I think that we did very good in the last years. The hearses we use in our company are completely electrical! I was very surprised that you released this video, very interesting. Those eco-coffins are so pretty 😍

Ask a mortitian is such an informative chanel, and really made me think about what i want to happen to my body when I die. Just found out that acuamacion is now available in México city and that there are death forests where you can decompose naturally, be which would be great

In Judaism we’ve been practicing eco burial for a long long time. Funerals involve a simple pine box and a biodegradable shroud. Embalming and ornate caskets are not allowed by religious law because the simple practice symbolizes the equality of all people in death.

About 10 years ago my uncle died asked for his asked to be spread in the ocean. So we got a biodegradable seashell urn for his ashes. It was really awesome, can’t remember the company. But definitely a great idea for ocean lovers!!

I want a natural burial, with a wicker casket if needed. Stick me under a tree somewhere. But I will definitely need to do the research and save and specify my wishes since I'm solo and in a different country from my family.
