Pat, as soon as you said books about self sufficiency I was oh it's got to be Foxfire! I'm here in South Western PA and a teen of the 70's. The woods and fields were my play grounds the creek was my swimming pool! Appalachia life!

I'm late to the game. I remember the Foxfire books, and I think my husband has some. My husband and I chat about things like you and Greg do. We will celebrate 49 years of marriage this year, both 18 when we married. Thanks for bringing up the Foxfire Books. I will be checking them out and telling Steve, too.

As a child of the '70's and '80's, I read all my grandparent's Eric Sloane books and my parent's "Foxfire" books. They were a great follow up to "Little House on the Prairie ". Love your grandma's bunnies.

Really love everything about the pear quilt. And learned something again today about matching. Thank you Pat.

As soon as you said “Foxfire” I immediately had a visualization of those very same books you remembered! Wow, a blast from the past. I was always fascinated by the traditional ways and arts. I’ve dabbled in spinning wool and making soap from tallow. I’ve tried candle making and throwing pottery. Basically, anything that would have been considered a “need to do” in days of yore has fascinated me all my life. Thank you for the walk down memory lane!

My parents bought a property in Wisconsin and we built a cabin there in 1973. They had several copies of the Foxfire books and a Mother Earth News subscription that we would read around the pot bellied stove they bought in an antique store. During the 1980's recession they prized the self-sufficiency those books had taught them.

Pat. Thank you for taking us on the Easter tour of your dining area. I always enjoy your home tours and mini home tours. The bunny quilt is sooo sweet! All hand stitched. Just beautiful. And I enjoyed seeing the little hand made figures and things from granny’s house. (All the kids called my mom granny before she passed in 2010). Thank you Pat.🥰🐇❤

I read those books and still have a few. My family is from the Appalachian people. I enjoy following the stories and lifestyle. It’s part why I quilted today.

I remember us having the Foxfire books while I was in high school. I remember because of the distinct covers. I really love your pear quilt and the colors you chose for it.

Thank you for reminding me about Foxfire books. I used to have several of the books and used them to help with skill development 40 years ago when we were “homesteading” on 20 acres in Michigan

Foxfire were books I read in conjunction with the Mother Earth News magazine I subscribed to and learned skills in gardening and preserving and other skills when I was much younger. Great memories. My basket is quite a small woven, metal basket that holds my most used pincushion and some hand sewing tools that I bring with me to the living room for binding and other handwork in the evening for TV and keeping my hands busy. I really liked the dining room décor. Your bunny quilt is adorable and the bunny figurines so sweet.

I definitely remember the Foxfire books! As a history teacher, retired now, I FREQUENTLY take deep dives into a variety of topics - can’t wait to check out Aunt Arie! Thanks for sharing this!

My goodness- what a great idea-
I will use this (bunny
quilt) idea to blend
Two feature fabrics
Similar on a slant,
For a border.
Really sharp!

I enjoyed your segment re: Foxfire. I still have a couple of those books in with my teenage treasures… I remember spending hours studying them. My parents were supportive of my creative interest and even took me to see the mountain crafts at Berea College. We also visited Big Stoney Gap on one of our vacations.
