the reason it only works 'sometimes' is because certain block data is accredited to each button depending on where it is placed so a button could have a value of 1 if placed a certain way while another one a different way would have a data value of 5, just something to keep in mind if it doesn't work, just put numbers from 0-7 until something happens. Sorry for the long comment just thought this might help people in future.

Btw just for a tip you don’t need the repeater and the block and the redstone torch. All you need is the command block set to always active and repeat and the comparator attached that connects to the following link command!
