Norman Lear is one of the most influential TV producers, directors, and screenwriters in history. He helped create some of the most important sitcoms of all time. All In The Family, One Day At A Time, Maude, Sanford and Son....the list goes on and on. Lear literally changed the way we look at television but his contributions go beyond the small screen.

Lear also produced the beloved 1987 fantasy film The Princess Bride, which was directed by his good friend Rob Reiner. Lear also had his hands in the production of films like Friend Green Tomatoes and Way Past Cool.

Norman's IMDB page is ridiculously impressive. Calling his contributions extensive is a bit of an understatement. This guy doesn't stop working and it seems like everything that he touches – with some rare exceptions – turns to gold. Even now at 98 he's still going strong,

Norman Lear is my hero. Both politcally and artistically he has had an influence on today's society here in the US and around the world. His contributions in to the world of television are so numerous and his political influence is top notch. He has premiered some of the most famous sit-coms in history and created controversy with his verve regarding taboo subjects, that were supposed to only talked about behind closed doors. I admire Norman Lear greatly and hope he lives another 20-30 years, producing many more movies, tv shows, and documentaries, that will be a greater influence on society going forward from today.

I grew up watching his shows.i still watch All in the family, The Jefferson's and a couple other of his shows guess I'm telling my age a bit but that's okay. I don't always agree with Norm but he sure has been a visionary!

I was born in 1988 and wasn't born for any of his early shows and I've watched all of them. Absolute legend and I have so much respect for him. All In The Family was my favourite, seen all the episodes. Words can't describe what this man has done for North American television.
