Неllo Greg! Thank you very much for your helpful lessons! In Russian people also usually use present tense when they tell anecdotes. For example a lot of funny stories begin like that : 'A patient comes to the doctor...'

Morning
It was so cool.
Could you please make a video about the phrase(i was like, he was like, it was like…)when someone is talking?i have got an intuition that it’s to make the situation a bit more realistic but still not so sure.
It’s very much appreciated

Thanks for your clear explanations of the four situations in which the simple present tense is used to talk about the past. I'd like to add one more situation. When we talk about the stories of movies or books, we often use the simple present tense, don't we?

Thanks Greg! 💪 I heard once a British guy say "I goes" and "you was" didn't get that back then 😀
As for using present simple instead of past tense in sports, it's the same in Lithuanian, Russian and, I guess, a bunch of other languages.
