Text Lainey:

Lyrics:
Verse 1
IT WAS RIGHT AFTER SENIOR YEAR
JUST BEFORE THE SUMMER DISAPPEARED
WE WENT RIDING THEM OLD FARM RUTS
HANGING OUT ON THE GATE OF HIS TRUCK
WE THREW A BLANKET NEATH THE SUNSET
BEING BRAVE AS EIGHTEEN GETS
WE GAVE EACH OTHER MORE THAN OUR HEARTS
WITH THE HELP OF A MASON JAR

CHORUS
DRINKING WATERMELON MOONSHINE
WE CUT THE BURN WITH A LITTLE LIME
PARKING BACK IN THEM KUDZU VINES
I WAS HIS AND EVERY BIT OF THAT BOY WAS MINE
TOO YOUNG TO KNOW WHAT LOVE WAS
BUT WE WERE LEARNING ON A SWEET BUZZ
THERE’S NEVER NOTHING LIKE THE FIRST TIME
AND MINE’S ALWAYS GONNA TASTE LIKE
WATERMELON MOONSHINE

Verse 2
I DON’T REMEMBER WHERE WE GOT IT FROM
I JUST REMEMBER FEELING ALL GROWN UP
TAKING PULLS LIKE IT AINT NO THING
NEVER TOLD HIM IT WAS MY FIRST DRINK
BUT I TOLD HIM THAT HE WAS THE ONE
YOU'RE SO SURE WHEN YOU'RE THAT YOUNG
YOU THINK YOU GOT IT ALL FIGURED OUT
AND NOW I LAUGH WHEN I THINK ABOUT

CHORUS
DRINKING WATERMELON MOONSHINE
WE CUT THE BURN WITH A LITTLE LIME
PARKING BACK IN THEM KUDZU VINES
I WAS HIS AND EVERY BIT OF THAT BOY WAS MINE
TOO YOUNG TO KNOW WHAT LOVE WAS
BUT WE WERE LEARNING ON A SWEET BUZZ
THERE’S NEVER NOTHING LIKE THE FIRST TIME
AND MINE’S ALWAYS GONNA TASTE LIKE
WATERMELON MOONSHINE

BRIDGE
I THOUGHT THAT HIGH WOULD LAST FOREVER
BUT THAT AIN’T WHAT IT DOES
MAYBE WE WERE DRUNK IN LOVE
OR MAYBE WE WERE JUST

CHORUS
DRINKING WATERMELON MOONSHINE
WE CUT THE BURN WITH A LITTLE LIME
PARKING BACK IN THEM KUDZU VINES
I WAS HIS AND EVERY BIT OF THAT BOY WAS MINE
TOO YOUNG TO KNOW WHAT LOVE WAS
BUT WE WERE LEARNING ON A SWEET BUZZ
THERE’S NEVER NOTHING LIKE THE FIRST TIME
AND MINE’S ALWAYS GONNA TASTE LIKE
WATERMELON MOONSHINE

Boy did this one take me back…Watermelon Moonshine is all about that young, wild, and crazy love. It’s the love that makes you feel like you’ve got somethin really special that can’t ever be taken away. Filming out in the pasture brought me back to those days and made me feel right at home. I’m real proud of how this one turned out and hope y’all love it too! ✨ 🍉 Let me know what y’all think in the comments below!

If ‘Strawberry Wine’ and ‘that’s what I love about Sundays’ had a baby, this would be it.

27 years ago this was strawberry wine. Both really good songs I’m glad there is new country that feels like old country

This song almost brought to tears at work thinking about my wife and our younger days. Life go's by so fast. 20 to 50 go's like a rocket. This song brings me back. Thank you

England here. I love how this song encapsulates a moment; a feeling, one that isn’t specifically confined to the US. When I was that age, my friends and I would car share and head to the woodlands, get a few campfires going, pick up some drinks. And I can relate- that situation at the time feels so precious that it MUST be acted upon. It is truth. Now- looking back- the truth is that I was learning and it is precious (for me) because of the niavety and of the journey discovering what love is.
Love this song- have it on my favourite play list.

This song hits hard, because while most can relate, I can’t. While I grew up in the country with plenty of dirt roads, I was raised in a sheltered environment and culture that never allowed for these type of experiences. Now, in my 40s I’m haunted by the experiences I feel like I missed out on as a teen and young adult, that are lost forever. But…. I have a family, good career and I’m married to my best friend for almost 20 years, so if I could go back and do it again, I can’t imagine I’d change a thing. Still, it’s all so bittersweet when I hear a song like this.

My 82 yr old Mom told me I had to check this song out, and this 53 yr old loves it. Reminds of country I listened to when I was a little girl living with my parents. Awesome Lainey!

I must admit, up until now, my musical interests were mostly rooted in 80's and 90's music, and I hadn't been paying much attention to new country releases. However, that all changed after attending the CMA FEST and experiencing Jelly Roll's performance. It opened my eyes to the potential of this new country genre.

For quite some time, I felt that country songs and artists were stuck in a repetitive cycle, producing music that lacked uniqueness. Yet, tonight's performance and a few other recent songs have ignited a newfound appreciation within me. I'm genuinely impressed, so much so that I'm already curating a YouTube playlist dedicated to this fresh wave of country music.

On a delightful note, I also stumbled upon a remarkable woman during my musical exploration. Though I'm not familiar with her identity, her voice is reminiscent of a young Dolly Parton, minus the signature wings, of course! 😂 This resemblance to the legendary Dolly has me captivated, and I can't wait to learn more about her and her music.

Overall, my perspective on new country music has taken a delightful turn, and I'm eagerly looking forward to discovering more incredible artists and their unique sounds in this evolving genre.

Reminds me of being 15, drinking Boones farm apple wine in the barn.. There was no girl, just a muse i could never get.. Many years later, I was hanging out with a guitar player, I played bass, and we ran out of beer... He gave me some home made Elderberry moon shine, that stuff burned for days.... Never did that again.... I love this song, the video is nice.... I can see why people are comparing it to strawberry wine... Predivorce paranoia is my most popular song on you tube... Last nights woman might be the closest thing to a drinking song i have.... I am the Halifax Hillbilly.. There is one song with the name of the muse i could never get.... 21 songs i wrote on you tube... Sober 35 years....

I'm not big on country music, but I heard this in a store, Googled it, and it just hits my ear perfectly. I listen to it often. 😊

I'm not a big fan of new country music but this song gave me goosebumps thinking that time of my life.
