If you watch until the end of the video she actually answers your last question, which is yes, the PC and NVIDIA Shield both have to be on the same WiFi network -- there just isn't enough bandwidth through the internet to have almost lag free streaming gaming from a PC to a handheld just yet....

Notice how much better the games look on the Shield compared to the monitor. That right there is the benefit of using a small high pixel density retinal screen. Nvidia made a very smart choice going with a 720p display on the Shield. Great vid again. Cheers

Yes a desktop NVIDIA card is required, NVIDIA says no mobile GPUs.

This is a demonstration that you can stream games from desktop to the shield.
This has great potential.Imagine streaming it using the internet.Leave your desktop at home, play anywhere.Well you need a decent ISP but, it's np.

"If you need a PC, just use a PC." It streams games from your PC, so you can play anywhere with a WIFI connection. It's like having a gaming laptop that can only play video games, but doesn't cost as much. I could take this on vacation, find a WIFI spot, and play Skyrim. Do you honestly think Nvidia would spend millions of dollars developing this product if there wasn't a target market? I'm starting to think you never graduated from high school because this is pretty straight forward...

Definitely an impressive feature tech-wise, but to many will arguably be no more than a convenience feature. I do like that they are working on this tech though, & the responsiveness &virtually no lag is definitely impressive at this beta stage in development. Now if they could only take this low latency tech &apply it to WiDi & Miracast, that would be fantastic. Maybe the 802.11ac WiFi standard can finally get us there at least & also help push this NVIDIA tech to be smooth at higher res also
