I love to be a student of history, and am proud to state that I never knew of Nerva’s reign. Thank you for sharing!

Hi. I started my Roman Imperial collection with "The 5". In one of my first auctions I won 3 coins of Nerva. A VF RIC II 84 Dupondius with a lovely green patina and 2 denarii. A VF RIC II 24 and an EF RIC II 47 which I paid a lot for but I love it.

Nerva and Pius are two of my favourite Roman emperors for exactly the reasons you are outlining here. They oversaw some of the most peaceful prosperous periods of the Roman era, and they didn't fuck it up. They didn't create crisis, in fact they avoided it at all costs and didn't rock the boat, choosing measured policies and successors. They were just non-descript and level-headed enough that they could lead things to a crisis-less outcome. That's a lot more than you can say for the vast majority of Emperors, although there is certainly some argument that other periods had more difficult trials-- on the other hand the Antonine period could also have been rife with civil-war if not for the likes of a Nerva's or a Pius' guiding-hand.

Often those are not the types of leaders that we remember most, but I would argue they are often the best ones.

Love the way you emphasize education about the entire historical gamut surrounding each coin. Otherwise, we would be mere trinket collectors.

I have one denarius with clasped hands and a legend CONCORDIA EXERCITVM on the reverse, but without the aquilifer. I got it recently. I am glad to have the denarii of all five good emperors.

I have a denarius struck in Nerva's 4th consular year, meaning it was struck 1-28 january 98 AD, the last month of his reign (and life). I love that the dating of these ancient coins can sometimes be accurately pinpointed to such a short period of time :-D

If you don't mind me asking how much did you pay for the denarius with Salus on the reverse.

The great historian Cornelius Tacitus held his consulship in the year 97, during Nerva's principate. One wonders if he was one of those rebellious or agitated Senators cited in this episode.

I really like my Nerva sestertius, though it is a bit rough. I wanted to get sestertii of the five good emperors, and I got the best I could afford for Nerva.

domitian stoped inflation by making coins more pure in silver
very underrated emperor in my humble opinion

I have one in pretty rough shape, I need to find a better one.

I don't consider him as "good" Emperor, his sole truly good decision was to adopt Trajan and it was basically forced upon him.
