Nyras Prologue for Gothic 1 Remake is now live on Steam!

We are thrilled to invite you into the brutal world of Gothic 1 Remake with a standalone experience: Nyras Prologue. Launching as part of Steam Next Fest (February 24 – March 3), this special demo is a unique introduction to the unforgiving world of Gothic.

In this self-contained prologue, you won’t step into the shoes of the Nameless Hero just yet. Instead, experience the Colony through the eyes of Nyras, a newly convicted prisoner struggling to survive in a ruthless environment where danger lurks around every corner.

Nyras Prologue offers an early glimpse at the world, mechanics, and atmosphere of the full remake, built in Unreal Engine 5.

Thank you for giving us the opportunity to test. I did, and I have some points that need to be addressed:

-Try jumping on or vaulting over objects, and you'll quickly realize there are invisible walls everywhere, and movement is completely unresponsive!
-When walking, you feel every step and stone because the camera jumps up and down. You also get no sense of steepness—the speed remains the same uphill and downhill, and you don’t slide down very steep parts like in the original.
-Defeated enemies should drop their weapons or at least pick up a new one after being looted, so they don’t have to fight with fists next time (like in the original).
-Executing an enemy feels too fast. It makes sense in the middle of a fight, but the original game had more impact due to the animation—especially with the victim raising their hand and shaking their head.
-The bow is overpowered, especially when climbing onto something and shooting from above.
-Aggro generally works very poorly, especially when enemies hover on the threshold between attacking and running away after being chased.
-Meatbugs have red blood when killed with a weapon, instead of green when stomped.
-NPCs don't say "Get out of my way". and when you pull out your fists, they say "Put down your weapon" (but I like that they also pull out their fists).
-No impact after falling from a great height.
-You can parry fall damage.
-Indoors or in mines, it’s too dark. Eyes don’t adapt to the darkness but do adapt after going outside, which makes no sense.
-No way to put out a torch. If you walk into water with it, you just drop it, and it keeps burning underwater... instead, it gets extinguished after 50 seconds on the ground, which also makes no sense.
-Torches in the world burn all day?! And even if you find one that isn't lit, you can't ignite it like in the original.
-You can't climb ladders with a torch, but you can pull yourself up with it. The big problem here is that over time, or after saving and loading, torches just disappear.
-You can't jump or climb with a weapon drawn, but you can with torches
-You can't move the camera when looting chests or enemies, and even if you spam "F + Space, " the animation takes too long.
-You can't cancel the animation if you accidentally sit down or something.
-You can't play instruments like in the original (where you also got XP for it).
-XP doesn't make sense—sometimes you get 0 XP or even negative XP.
-No hidden items or secrets (intensive exploration is not rewarded)

REMEMBER: IMMERSION IS EVERYTHING!

All the games you've made feel like they were created just for me, and years later, my favorite game series is releasing a remake. There isn't a huge fan base in Turkey, but I'm sure there are people like me who love your work. I’m trying to support you from everywhere. May Innos bless you! :D

The animations need significant improvement as they currently feel slow and clunky. It's surprising that even older games like Gothic 3, which was released in 2006, have smoother and more responsive movements. In addition, it's difficult to clearly distinguish items that can be interacted with or collected. A more fluid animation system, along with clearer item indicators, would vastly enhance the gameplay experience and make the game feel more polished and immersive.

However much time this game had left to cook, please give it another year. Don’t rush it out before quarterly earnings, if it’s given the proper time it’ll be a success.

I had a lot of fun playing the demo and personally i think its really really close to the true spirit of Gothic already. Especially the faces and the world itself combined with the new graphics look amazing. Thanks for your work, im looking forward to the full release!

I just deeply hope and wish that you guys would seriously polish everything and deliver a complete and seriously immersive game. The community needs a new great experience with the old beloved title. Don't mess it up!

I'm surprised the developers were able to remake Diego in a way that resembles his original appearance, especially his head. Great job.

The movement just feels a tad to sluggish, I think the responsiveness to inputs needs to be improved and it would feel so much better

I like that people share all the things that can be improved.
At the same time - I really enjoyed the demo. The original had it's issues too, but it didn't stop me from playing it over and over.
Also performance for me - was good enough. Playing on 3.5 year old mid level gaming laptop, and I was able to play on low-mid settings no problem.

I just the finished the demo and wanted to say that whatever you guys are doing, you're doing it RIGHT! I loved every second of it! You can see there is passion in this project. Thanks for this amazing work, remaking one of the best games ever made!

It feels like a Gothic game and that's the most important thing! 🙏Thank you Alkimia for doing this! I have no doubts that you'll do an amazing job on the full game.
It's still rough around the edges, needs polishing of animations and character controller. Jumping is weird, turning is slow etc.
Another important note. Immersion is the most important thing. The music and sounds should change when entering different environments like caves, settlements etc. Combat music was missing it the demo as well.
Considering your track record and how you listened to the community so far I have no doubts that you'll fix and improve these and many other things for the release.
Looking forward to playing the remake of Gothic 1 and I hope you will do the remakes for Gothic 2 and 3 🤞
