Man, I never thought about the time component like that, but it's so true. Thanks so much Math Sorcerer. Been feeling a lot of self-doubt taking calc 2 and algorithms analysis in the same semester. I think what happens is when you are presented something that is sufficiently complex that you've never seen before, there are just too many variables to consider, but with time, very small pieces of the overall picture start to become second nature. When you no longer have to think about all of those small pieces anymore because they have become second nature to you, only then will you feel like you've really got the complete picture. Each small piece stacks together and you have to link them all to one another for true understanding.

I've been doing that JUST now!! How funny. I did this when I got my first big girl job that I was NOT experienced enough for. I am doing this now during a stressful moment when someone is starting drama in my life, and I'm keeping it together ❤️ my confidence grows funnily enough, as I keep faking it til I make it

The first lesson I had as an infant at school was 1+2=3. My mother had already taught me that one and two makes three with objects. However I missed the teacher's explanation of the signs: + and =, and I asked the boy beside me, "What does she mean?" He said, "Copy mine." I thought I might be cheating so I refused. Also, if found out, I might get him into trouble as well. In retrospect, I guess that if I had just copied him as he suggested, I would have progressed in maths a lot quicker than I did. It's a minor observation, but I think you're right about faking it, at least initially. I think that poor boy was worried about me for a long time afterwards. Having said that, we were only five years old. Slán.

Do NOT fake it til you make it. If you convince a person of expertise you do not have it will end badly. If you are not an expert focus on telling people that you are still learning with the intention of becoming an expert. If you are confident you are right and you convince others you are right if you are wrong it does not end well. Could Theranos have made Edison work potentially but they ignored experts, some of whom said the laws of physics would need to be broken for it to work. There is a fine line between confidence and delusion and one should be mindful of that. like the song goes you've got to know when to hold them, know when to fold them, and know when to run. I once lost a lot of money on a business I started when I believed we could make it when we could not. Be aware and remember it is ok to be wrong and long as you do not ruin yourself.
