It's been a couple years since the release of the Canon R3, and photographers are wondering when Canon will release a high-speed, high-resolution camera to compete with the Sony Alpha 1 and Nikon Z9. While Chris and Jordan wait, they decided to list of their wishlist for Canon's upcoming mirrorless flagship.

How is the r3 already 2 years old? How am I already that old?

1. Pre-release capture that works with RAW
2. 45-60 MP sensor
3. Cross-pixel AF that solves the focus issues with birds-in-flight and other low contrast situations, which hinders all mirrorless cameras and requires clunky workarounds like pre-focusing
4. Spot metering linked to AF point instead of just being limited to the center. All 1-series cameras have previously offered this, but it has yet to appear in any R body

Anything else is welcome but just gravy. Almost put down global shutter but it's not as essential as the other things.

Thanks! I have a Nikon Z9 and don’t intend to switch but you present this in a fun and exciting way it is a pleasure to hear about Canon!

It's a small thing but I really hope the R1 brings back the Rear LCD panel found on the 1D series for many generations. Extremely useful for those of us that record image numbers. Otherwise I just want the R1 to continue Canon's domination of low light (25, 600+ ISO) sports photography.

Thanks for talking about computational photography. Please include this as a feature when reviewing too. Please discuss how well it is implemented. Cheers.

I really like the “out of the box” ideas presented at the end of the video. Another incremental bump in stats like a little faster sensor or stickier AF just isn’t going to move the needle. What one of these companies needs to do is steal more from phones, not other cameras. A camera body with built-in memory and ND filters; a camera with Wi-Fi to allow for transfer of content without a clunky app and allow for GPS tagging of images; a camera with built in theft measures that allows for tracking or bricking lost gear; and as you mentioned computational processing to allow for handheld Astro photography just like people can now do with their telephones.

- A global shutter sensor
- Shuterless, no mech shutter
- A lot of raw fps for sports
- 40mpx or more
- 8k 60p raw video
- 4k 120p raw video
- open gate raw record from full sensor resolution
- support for the fastest possible Cfexpress type B (dual)
- great flash sync thanks to the global shutter sensor

Screw the R1, R5II or whatever: Mr Canonchow: open this mount, tear down this 3rd Party wall

I'm not a huge Canon fan these days, but I really hope they hit it out of the park with this one. 60MP, 50fps and twin CF Express cards with a big buffer. Canon has all this really impressive glass, they need to have a body in the works to take full advantage of it.

2:37 also perfect for talking about the dynamic range needed to capture the tan difference between his legs and arms ;)

I would prefer the 'cost no object' approach and and it seems more like Canon to me, pricing their camera higher but pushing the tech. What I'd personally like to see is to drop the mechanical shutter for a stacked sensor and also add internal ND-filters. Allowing it to compete with their cinema line but being priced to make up for it.

I just hate messing with screw on filters so much that I still carry a separate cinema camera for video work (I do hybrid ENG and documentary and sacrificing 180 shutter angle is not an option).

The R1 is going to hit the market shortly before the 2024 Olympics, and it's going to be specifically made for sports and action. And I'd be really surprised if it doesn't beat the competition in frames per second and buffer size. Not by much, though, leaving space for improvements in another four years.
The eye controlled AF is something I highly appreciated in the film days and still miss. But back then you didn't find it in the Eos 1. You had to go to the Eos 5 or 3, or the Eos 50-E or 30. I had the 50-E, and I was very disappointed that there wasn't an R7-E for people like me who really can't waste money on full frame. Will it come in the R1? I doubt it. Would it even be possible to make it work for everyone? Even for people who don't read manuals (which is most people)? And even for the many people who don't have the patience to calibrate it carefully? Again I doubt it. The sensor might not be above 30 MP. Perhaps not even that high. Canon's going to look at the competition, of course, but they will make sure to keep the resolution low enough to be sure to win the speed contest.

8K 120p for at least 30 minutes. That would be a game changer.

Really interesting how much of this video is, "I wish you'd do what Sony did with the A1". Just shows how far ahead Sony was with the A1 and why I can't wait to see what they're going to do with the A1 Mk. 2.

How about a sensor without a low pass filter? That would be my wish, and the option to put exposure bracketing on a button like with the Nikon Z8 / D850 those would be my wishes not mentioned here. Then again I would just like to see this on the Canon R5II

Prices on high end camera bodies are only going to go up with the current camera market. My biggest problem with Canon is their lack of lens development and innovation in the absence of third party providers being allowed to produce. I shoot mostly landscapes and Fuji's MF offerings are looking more and more appealing to me. They do a lot right with aspect ratio guides, sensor performance, ergonomics, lens quality, colors.

2 CFexpress B slots is a must for the R1, R3 Mark II and R5 Mark II.

7:20 I wanna be in Florida too. From October to May. Between May and end of September my garage will do.

It should have a stacked, medium frame, 150 MP, 100fps, 20 stops of dynamic range, 5 axis, 10 stop ibis effective up to 500mm, and can time travel when you miss.
