In this video, I show you how to take Stroke and Distance after hitting a ball out of bounds? Stroke and distance is the procedure and penalty when you take relief under Rule 17, 18, or 19. By taking a penalty stroke, you play your next stroke from where you made your previous stroke.

I just don't get the penalty stroke +1. You hit once, have to hit again, that's already the penalty. Seems overkill. Still trying to find some references to why they did it to begin with.

Is it true that, when a ball is lost in the general area (so not OB or in a penalty area), you can take 2 penalty strokes and drop on the edge of the fairway in the vicinity of where the ball was thought to be lost in order to save the time of walking back to the place the previous shot was played from?

Most people ive played with make up their own rules. They miss every shot off the tee box and either count no strokes or say mulligan. At the end, they say they hit an 82. I just laugh
