Thinking About Science and Politics in the Age of Trump
Notions of post-truth, fake news, and science denial fail to come to grips with the position of science in politics today. In this talk I will simply want to raise some questions about the status of knowledge and information in the political sphere, with special attention to issues such as climate change, behavioral economics, and open science. For example: How should we think about “quality” in science? Is rationality” a political concept? Are we doing less science than we think we are? What do we know about the relationship between partisanship and science?
