Average life expectancy is a pretty vague term. The main reason it was so low in the 1800s was due to a huge factor of infant mortality. Many children didn't live past 5 years old. This heavily skews the figures downwards.
The fact is that if you lived past 5 years old you would probably live to 60 or 70.
It's just that so much children died in their early lives that we get these odd figures.

A lot of this is due to huge infant mortality dragging the numbers down, it wasn´t like there were no people who were 60-70 back in the 1800s.
It would have been interesting to see the life expectancy rates for those who survived, say their 5th birthday.

you can clearly tell africa had bad life expectancy in 1800 - 2021
