I am back with another GE dishwasher video! Today I am showing you how to drain your GE dishwasher. This is super helpful if you have some pooled water due to a clogged filter. I am always learning how to do new things around my house and figure I will share them with you all :)

If this trick didn’t work as instructed try also starting your DW in a “light” cycle, let it run for like 2-3 seconds THEN press the “Start” button for 3 seconds!!! I guess letting the DW start its normal cycle maybe reset the washers program & it ended up draining normally as Kathy instructed!

IT WORKED! THANK YOU! My kitchen has been smelling funky. I kept cleaning out the fridge, then I thought maybe a cat left it's business right outside my kitchen door. I started getting flies, I thought it was because of the heat. The smell permeated my whole house and then I discovered it was gross water from the dishwasher which I hadn't used it I was so stressed out because I had no idea how to fix it, plus I was too embarrassed to call the landlord because of the disgusting stench. So glad all it took was a 3 second push of a button for it to drain. Nobody cares! I just had to vent!

All, this is good information. Also if you have just installed a new garbage disposal in your sink, make sure the plug is removed. It is really easy to do just a screw driver and a small hammer. You can remove the plug prior to installing the disposal or if it is already installed just put you hand inside and pull the plug out. It’s made of plastic. If you are installing a badger insinkerator, read step 15 in your instruction manual. I didn’t and had water standing in the dish washer. This was the problem for me. Hope this helps someone.

if you have a model with a knob/dial/timer (e.g., spacemaker GSM2260) you can try turning the knob slowly through the cycle until you reach a point where it drains--for me this was just at/after the "Rinse only" marker on the cycle. You will need to listen for the sound of it draining (like in the video) and possibly do it a few times, moving the cycle along if you hear it spray water again, but this eventually drained all the water out of mine

Wanted to say thanks. I grabbed my shop vac. Got all the water out. Then held the start/reset button for a bit. Then I started a test wash and heard the water come up and into the sink. I think that did it. Thanks for reminding me about the reset feature on my GE dishwasher.

This is super helpful, but my GE dishwasher has the buttons on the inside, so it’s impossible to do what you suggest with my model. I’ll try a couple things out though

What if you have a model with a dial only, no push buttons?

We have a similar GE dishwasher - 7 years old. Recently, it goes through all cycles ok, which include multiple drains and refills per wash. When finally done washing, water remains in the bottom of the dishwasher. FYI - We meticulously rinse the filter after each wash. We don't want to hold the start button after each wash to address the undrained water issue. That's not a fix. I'm thinking the cause may be a faulty circuit board. What do you think? Thanks for your reply.

Thank you. I have an old GE Nautilus. I just cleaned the filter a month ago. I tried you suggestion. It worked. Do you have to do this each you do a wash?
