What is the NIPT ( Non-Invasive Prenatal Test ) also called the Harmony Test.

Dr Samina Dornan, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, Specialist Maternal Fetal Medicine at King's College Hospital London in Dubai, explains what this revolutionary test means.

NIPT assesses fetal DNA from sample taken from the mother and is available in King’s College Hospital. It can be done throughout the pregnancy and requires a simple blood test taken from 10 weeks gestation.

The test screens for:

• Trisomy 21 (Down syndrome) – 99.5% accurate and is the most accurate screening test for this anomaly.
• Trisomy 18 (Edwards syndrome) – 97% accurate
• Trisomy 13 (Patau syndrome) – 94% accurate
• Sex chromosomes – 95% accurate

Is the test accurate if the fetal dna is 5, 4%? Or is it too low? I got a result but i dont know if i can trust it due to low dna...it says its a girl and low risk...but what if the y chromosome hasnt been detected and its actually a boy and maybe high risk? Is that possible or is the result equally trustworthy as one that has more fetal dna?
