A worn lawn mower wheel drive belt can break and leave you stranded in your yard. Check your Ariens® APEX zero-turn transaxle belt regularly, and replace it according to the instructions in this video if it has sidewall damage, glazed sidewalls or cracks.

Edit: Thanks again for the visual tutorial and tips. This is way better than what the manual offers. I was able to install a replacement belt in about thirty minutes.

I know my gravely HD 52 is identical mine has a 1/2 inch place for the one half inch socket to go into without removing that spring which can be quite dangerous. I just go under the machine put the one half inch ratchet on it and take the tension off and put slide the belt right on takes about 5 seconds.

How many hours are expected to get out of a hydro belt, if the machine is brand new?

Spring came off, belt jumped of and took out one of my little fans. Picked up 2 fans (one for spare) and & new belt. I plan on replacing the belt because it’s been on there since I bought it new. I forgot the year…. Does the model/serial number give the year manufactured?

This mower may have a factory defect.The idler pulley is not level with hydro trans pulley on right side setting on mower It throws belt off.I added washers 1/4 to 5/16 thick to lower idler pulley.

Ive just changed mine on my 48 inch Apex. And there is no way you can do it that easy and without a pit. You cannot do it without a pit as i tried.

My max zoom60 is slightly different, but pretty much the same. I looked at it, it seems pretty easy, thank you Ariens. I was mowing and suddenly my machine wouldn't drive :-( I was thinking "Oh crap the hydroes broke. One hydro feed tube is sort of crimped, it came like that new. Anyway I towed it into my garage with the old wheel horse and saw it was the belt. I just have to get a OEM belt part #07211500.
