By expanding boundaries, exploring possibilities and conveying truth, films have helped change Africa's reality (even before "Black Panther"). Afrofuturism is actually a really neat concept and aesthetic. It's fun to make WE jokes and t. alberto barbosa all day, but when I look at the futurist concepts and arts stemming from an African perspective, or even just wider black culture, it's a cool thought.

Although It is nice to look at the fiction and art and imagine what could be, Africa has been taking real steps moving forward (Granted with a lot of humanitarian aid, but spinning that as a bad thing would be disingenous to what we all want from those charitable acts), and anyone that acts in a disparaging manner isn't really going to help that cause, as said in the talk, the continent as a whole is behind the rest of the world in many aspects, but what could be achieved on a landmass so big and abundant with potential is an exciting prospect.
