I don't have a problem with autobids for the Big 12 and the ACC (I'm skeptical about the G5). But I don't think conference winners should automatically get the byes. Include a bid for the B12 and ACC, but give the top 4 teams the byes.

I’m surprised you didn’t mention the NFL when talking about auto bids. Each division champ gets an auto bid which is why we can see a 8-9 #4 seed play a 12-5 #2 seed. So if anything they are just following the NFL protocols. I’m not arguing for one way or the other though.

Love your show and agree with you on 90% of your issues. However, on the auto-bid discussion. How can you claim you deserve a shot to be labeled as the best team in the country if you aren't in the argument as the best team in your conference? I am not talking about a Georgia of last year. Or even when Ohio State won it all from the 4 seed and both TCU and Baylor got left out. In a 12 team playoff, a 9-3 or even a 10-2 3rd or 4th place SEC team should not have a more valid claim than an 11-1 team that won their conference, EVEN if that team is a Boise St. And that is hard to say as an OU alumni that is staring that possibility in the face if we have an amazing season and go 5-3 in the SEC this year with our schedule.

JP - I think the entire point of the auto-bid system is to incentivize a team to remain competitive in conference championship games if they know they'll get into the CFB playoff regardless of the outcome of the game. Just my take.

Absolutely do not remove auto bid for conference champs. You have the old mindset where it was possible for a 8-4 team getting into the playoffs but no divisions makes that impossible now. Why bother playing in a conference championship if you don't have a auto bid for the playoffs that's stupid pate!
