This is Barbara Keith from her 1972 album, backed by a bunch of legends such as Jim Keltner, Leland Sklar, Spooner Oldham and David Cohen from Country Joe and the Fish. Her original version is just over 3 minutes. She wrote Free the People, covered by many such as Olivia Newton-John

"All Along the Watchtower" is a song written and recorded by Bob Dylan. The song initially appeared on his 1967 album John Wesley Harding. Following his motorcycle accident in July 1966, Dylan spent the next 18 months recuperating at his home in Woodstock and writing songs. Dylan had settled into family life, after the birth of 2 children in '66 and '67. He took an interest in the Bible, which was reflected in the Biblical imagery of the album, particularly "All Along the Watchtower".
