Thank you for this video! Those tips make sooo much sense, and yet I would've never thought of them on my own. I really need to get over my fear of falling and see if I can get a few long overdue tasks completed; not to mention the gutter around the pool cage, that is only accessible by way of the roof, due to the pool cage being attached to it.

0:28 - So this answers my question on ladder placement. Looks like it's okay to push it up against a rain gutter. Thought it would bend/collapse.

When walking down a roof, if you feel concerned, walk down the roof as low as you can. This way if you start to slide (because the roofing is in poor condition for example) then you can sit down quickly. Wearing denim jeans (or similar material) is preferred as they will grip well on asphalt shingle roofs.

A work boot with a soft sole supports the ankle and grips shingles really well. Work gloves also help when sitting down near the edge to remove debris from the gutter.

I'm putting gutters on my house myself right now. You need to buy a standoff for your ladder. NOBODY is getting on my roof without one, even where there's no gutter. Otherwise, that was good info. I'm gonna try to find those boots. What do you do when the aggregate is loose? My roof is steeper than that, I have to scoot up and down on two foam cushions.I have a harness and ski rope if I could just find it.

Thanks for this video. There's an old antenna on our roof that i really want to get down but was worried about walking on the roof and now i feel much safer doing it with all the knowledge you provide here. I'll still try and take extra precautions but at least i'll be more sure footed now.
