Fate of Ukraine's Soledar unclear as Wagner claims control • FRANCE 24 English

The fate of the Ukrainian city of Soledar was unclear on Wednesday, with Russian mercenary group Wagner claiming control of it while also saying "urban battles" were still being fought. Both sides have said the battle for Soledar, known for its salt mines, has been intense and bloody. Its fall would mark a significant victory for Moscow's forces. Soledar, in the Donetsk region, lies around 10 kilometres from the city of Bakhmut, which Russia has been trying to seize for months.

Ukraine war reminds me of the Iraq invasion by US under false justification. At least Russia has a point in not allowing more NATO (US) bases on its borders.
How could people ever thought that Russia would allow NATO (US) to keep building bases on its borders and do nothing? Or that Ukraine could win a war against Russia? Not even with NATO support. In a hypothetical situation, would US allow China or Russia to build bases on its borders? Remember Cuban missiles crisis?

Russian forces also liberated the community of Podgorodnoye southwest of Soledar, eliminating about 80 Ukrainian troops over the past day. Russian Airborne Force units blocked Soledar from the north and the south and are battling Ukrainian troops in the town. Russian forces struck 74 Ukrainian artillery units over the past day during the special military operation in Ukraine.
Russian forces delivered strikes at amassed manpower of two Ukrainian army brigades in the Kupyansk area, destroying over 30 militants in the past day.

The Ukrainian military suffered roughly 90 casualties in the Krasny Liman area over the past day as a result of damage inflicted by Russian artillery and combat aircraft.

Russian troops also eliminated four Ukrainian subversive/reconnaissance groups in the Lugansk People’s Republic and in the Serebryansky forestry. In all, Ukrainian forces lost as many as 90 troops killed and wounded, two armored fighting vehicles and three motor vehicles in that area over the past 24 hours.
