How couples met (1930-2024)

How did you meet your spouse? Times have changed and this data visualisation shows just how much this is true. We have shifted away from traditions, where we were once introduced by friends and family, or married our high school sweetheart. It seems the internet has even disrupted our love lives.

What do you think about this?

Great video! I wonder why someone re-cut it and took out your reference data. This then seems to be the version that many are reposting now. It took me a bit of searching to find the original here.

Wow. Did not expect that much of an increase, and so rapidly too. It's such a powerful realization of data when visualized like this. As a 24 yr old, I've met the majority of my romantic partners throughout my life through social media or dating apps. I met my current partner through a friend and it has been the longest and most fulfilling relationship I've had.

It would be interesting to see a study exploring the correlation between modes of meeting vs. relationship longevity/divorce rates.

Who T/F are the .002% hooking up using computers in ‘83 ?

Must have been those people who scratched their phone number onto the Pac-Man console at the arcade.

Surprised college was so low in the end! Bunch of people in the same age range together all day everyday; thought that’d be a little higher up. Interesting!

Thanks for this beautiful video!
Missing information: is this local data to a country/countries / culture groups? What are the divorce rates?

My friends and family used to be my entire life and priority. Now theyre my biggest enemies while I watched them all disregard me, destroy my life, lie about me, and then walked away when I was so heartbroken over how they treated me that I could barely function. Still here though, still building myself up and trying to have a good time and some fun. 2025 is a few days away, can't wait!!!

Wow! This is really, really interesting! What is the source of this data? Is it worldwide or just America?

And that's why I'm single and I'll die alone. I hate dating apps.

You could also call this: "How Society went down the Toilet"

Just so people know, this video is being spread around tiktok and other sites, but the label has been changed to "How people spend their time" and it's very misleading.

A bit confused how people met online in 1975 when the internet didn’t start until 1983 and I highly doubt anyone was using it for dating purposes back then…

The way many meet better halves is difficult to recount nowadays. We can now see chance as some of the life that contribute in lives in many human endeavours. I see chance as what plays a major role in how we conduct our lives nowadays as cosmopolitan lives we find ourselves leading now has forcibly brought certain life conditions on many people.

Give us the source of the data and then give us the divorce rate through the years also

I struggle to believe that only 0.75% of people meet their spouse in college!? That should be WAY higher? I know that it's antidotal evidence, but I know A LOT of people who met their recent spouse in college? That number not even being ONE PERCENT just seems kinda crazy to me.
