Even though they're cannibals, humboldt squid are also social--they'll hunt in groups of over 1,000 individuals.

Wow. We think we would be able to talk to aliens, we dont even realize other animals here on earth are communicating let alone understand them.

E-reader screens aren't backlit. They're entirely opaque so any lighting needs to be projected over a layer on top of the screen. There are so many screens that do us backlights but that's not one of tbem

We're so recent in terms of life's history on this planet and other lineages like cephalopods have been around for so long. Human language is obviously one of the crown jewels of our species but I'd be totally shocked if we were the first and only species to figure out symbolic communication. It's shame our egos are so dead-set on being special.

Why don’t humble squid have the two long attacking arms?

The ligth can be the sound of the voice, and the skin padern can be the words🤷🏻‍♂️

Gotta think evolution went to the trouble of backlighting the patterns they make on their skin for a very good reason.

Im following different science channels in English and i've noticed that some of the narrators, specially females, emphasize more the "S" than others. For me (non native English speaker) sounds like "Thisss isss the humble deep sssea sssquid..." Is this pronunciation characteristic from a special region of the US? When you listen with headphones slis specially noticiable.

They become gray like that when they die.

You guys always talk shit about "sentences" but never give an actual example of them using a "sentence". Fake news.

That’s a bit of a stretch to say “like how we use words to form sentences”… at best it’s “like how we use sounds to forms words”
