Definitely a time saver and for those who don't know how to sharpen blades, it is a must. Looks awesome. I've been doing it so long I can use a regular work bench grinder and get the same result, it's definitely a art lol

I have on the RBG-712 for 6+yrs . Fantastic machine. I sharpen my blades every 3 days of use. I have found it takes less time to sharpen when done this way. It takes about 6 passes to bring back the sharp edge. I carry 2 sets and change out mid week and resharpen on Fridays. As far as sharpening mulching blades goes. You are correct about the wavy blades. They will not work . BUT the GATOR BLADES can be sharpened because they are flat blades also. I have found no need to sharpen the bent up fingers on the gator blades . They work very well on there on. As far as the wheel goes. I am still on my FIRST disc !! (6+years) I wore out the first side and simply flipped the disc around to use the other side. I am a solo operator and I go through 12 blades a year as long as I do not bend a blade. I service around 40ish lawns a week. I am in Florida with year around cutting . I am about 50/50 with Augustine and Bahia lawns . The Bahia lawns can be very sandy and can dull blades quickly. I personally would recommend this machine for its cutting angle alone. I noticed immediately how much better the cut was once I used the machine the first time. NO MORE STRAGGLERS. The only complaint would be is the power. I think it would be better to have a larger motor but for the money . I really can't complain. I also would love to see all blade manufatures go to the 28 to 30 degree angle and this would really help when first sharpening with this machine. It take some time to get the true 28 degree angle on most of the Oregon blades I use. I hope this helps someone in there dession 👊

Bought the rbg-934 after I saw you get this. We sharpen our blades on our Toro 4500 ground master 2 times a week in the growing season. We're going on about year and still haven't had to to change the grinding pad

Brian... a small but important detail: watch the blade label placement on the new blades. If it is within .5 inch or less from the bolt hole, peal that part away. Reason is that paper thickness will tilt the blade a little, and could also cause a blade to come loose as the paper against the arbor and/or washer softens and wears thinner over time.

Finally settled on a sharpening tool, here’s my recommendation for homeowners and pros. You guessed it, go with a Bastard Half-Round File, it’s flat with deep groves on one side and half-round on the other. Both are cross-cut grooves and a good brand is Nicholson.

This comes with a caveat, you have at least some background filing metal or wood, for me I find it wasy but for others you might find a sharpening stone or grinder easier. I was trained in this at a young age so if you’ve never picked up a flat file before it might be difficult to pick up the technique. There’s a few Youtube videos that will help you with the proper technique and sharpness, but with any tool it’s not going to work very well unless you know how to use it.

With this tool it’s very easy to balance it after, I had no balancing issues and I just removed enough material to get a clean edge, remember it does not have to be real sharp. As far as the angle goes if you are filing properly you will naturally pick up the right angle. It took me 2 minutes per edge and I had no issues with the correct amount of tourque when I put the blade back on. Pick up a torque wrench if you are not comfortable but it’s really not required.

Mower is working like brand new after I sharpened it, the edge is also thick enough that it is not getting dull after hitting a stone or stick, I have lots of those round pine tree cones and broken off branches to go through as well. It doesn’t matter how many times I remove them I’m bound to run over a couple.

Love my RBG, Brian. Don’t forget you can flip the wheel over and use the other side. Sure hope we are allowed to use our sharpened blades soon, Whitmer is getting absolutely ridiculous with our state restrictions 🤔

I just picked up the 934, and can’t wait to use it. I figure the 1st time with each new blade will take a little more work, just to get that 30 degrees back.

Great Video Brian...very informational and straight forward. Could you make a video on how you remove the blades and reattach them to your mowers...how do you get underneath? Do you have a ramp or a lift? And what tools do you use? Thanks!

Tip: pull thru at steady same pace each time. Count the pulls as you go. Then pull same on other side. I've done this for 3 years and have yet to need to rebalance the blade.

Hey Brian...I discharge my clipping when using my lawn tractor. Would it be best to use a mulching blade or a regular flat blade for best results or does it really matter?
