Honest Review of Litter Robot 4 (UPDATED)

As a new cat mom of three kittens, I was very interested in an automatic litter cleaning robot. I did not want to use a traditional litter box and be stuck scooping for three cats for the next 20 years. I reviewed several models and finally chose the Litter Robot 4. In this unpaid, honest review I'll share with you my thoughts after 5 weeks of use with my three kittens!

Just so others know The litter robot people said that you don't have to have as many litter robots as you do traditional boxes. "We recommend up to 4 indoor cats per single Litter-Robot; however, we do have customers with more cats using a single unit. As a rule of thumb, one cat using Litter-Robot 3 requires that the drawer be emptied once per week; two cats, twice per week; three cats, every other day, and so on." You may not need so many boxes as they do, get 1 first and see how your kitty babies do <3

My own personal concern is that I have 2 senior cats (one of them is geriatric, actually) aged 8 and 16, and they have used manual/standard litter boxes their whole lives and they likely won't use it. Both of the senior cats are also very skittish, so I can see something like this startling them. However, I have one kitten now, aged 7 months, and our old Breeze system that has worked for us for years is no longer cutting it because kitten is getting into the senior food and has frequent stinky poo because of it. Maybe this one can be for the kitten, since it seems more successful for kittens than older cats. And the old ladies can just use their manual boxes. I really appreciate this video :)

I just got mine. Thanks for the advice…I also got mine with the 3yr warranty just for peace of mind as well. And yes the black “LR4” collects all the dust. Even with the most expensive “non-dusty” litter. This review is very very realistic.

Love my LR4. Have had it for about a year now and the only issue I have had is... one of the seal-strips that goes around the waste drawer. Order the full replacement pack so I can check all the others while I'm fixing the one, to see if any others can use a change-out. Also... not sure if you've tried it or not, but the unscented So Phresh litter from PetCo is amazing. Dust is crazy like I've experienced with others and it's pretty inexpensive if you order the 40LB bags and even save a few more bucks setting up Repeat Deliveries.

If you go on the subreddit there are al to of people who hate this thing. I was going to buy one until i saw all of those complaints. My biggest concern is people say it will randomly error out in cycles and leave the cats with no litter and then they end up peeing in your house (which is the absolute worst thing to get started)

I use “Worlds Best cat litter”. Clumps great. Corn based litter so it’s compostable - I live in country with horses…
