On Tuesday 2 May 2017, the entire student body paid tribute to Mr Jimmy Crosswell with the school haka as he was carried from College House. Mr Crosswell was extremely proud to be a teacher at PNBHS, a College House master and was very fond of the school haka. To our students - we are so proud to have you at PNBHS and your respect for Mr Crosswell that is displayed through this haka is very moving for us.

Mr Crosswell has been part of the PNBHS teaching staff since January 2014, and a College House Master since January 2015. As well as teaching English and Social Studies he was involved in establishing a mentoring programme for young men facing academic challenges, and had a real empathy for those students who were struggling in some aspect of school life. Mr Crosswell has been heavily involved in school co-curricular activities, especially as a cricket, rugby and rugby sevens coach, and through involvement in the outdoor education programme. As a College House Master he has been heavily involved with the young men who live there. In these capacities Mr Crosswell has had personal involvement with many young men and parents in our school community.

Translated into English:
We of Palmerston North Boys' High School stand steadfast
Within our Domain
Standing firm
Standing proud
Standing with respect
To uphold
To uplift
To uplift
To uphold
The prestige of our school
Our aims are to seek knowledge
And reach our goals and aspirations
Seek the horizon of aspirations
And draw near to it
Those aspirations that are near, take them
And it be known, yes, let it be known
Let your adrenalin abound high above
It is done!!!

I'd only seen Haka on Rugby pitches... Never before had I seen it being performed as a way to pay tribute to someone... Made me cry. So, so beautiful and powerful...

5 years later and still Freaking outstanding. One of the things that unites Kiwis abroad - when you hear the haka, you know your soul comes home to Aotearoa, New Zealand. Ive heard it in China, South Korea and even in Cambodia - it still makes me think of home. USA with the Patea Maori Club with Te Reo Maori songs became hugely popular, the All Blacks with their haka, Te Reo is huge in Europe now with Alien Weaponry making it big abroad and all our artists who proudly display their art regardless of which discipline. Good on you New Zealand, Keeping it Kiwi.

The way the leader slows it down then lets the boys unleash their emotion and passion is beautiful

I feel nothing but respect for the Maori culture and the people of New Zealand after watching this.

You can hear the passion in every single student for their teacher. They should be proud of themselves.

I'm from the UK, not sure how I got to this (You-tube surfing) but I am so glad I did. What an amazing tribute, I have seen the Haka performed on numerous occasions but never performed so passionately!!

I think Hakka should be the world anthem. It will bring maturity sense of understanding and care to all human beings. This tradition is full of everything.

Imagine you are a British soldier sent to the ends of the earth and these people don't want you around. Then you hear this in the middle of the night.
