What If...? – Paramount / New Line (Tom McLoughlin's Freddy vs. Jason)

Influenced by fan desire for a crossover film with a fight between Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees, New Line Cinema and Paramount Pictures tried to make a Freddy vs. Jason film in 1987. Frank Mancuso, Jr. enlisted Tom McLoughlin to unite the studios, but no agreement could be made. Paramount and New Line wanted the license to the other's character so they could control a crossover film. Negotiations on the project collapsed, and Paramount made Friday the 13th: Part VIII – Jason Takes Manhattan. When Jason Takes Manhattan failed at the box office, the rights reverted to Phil Scuderi, Stephen Minasian, and Robert Barsamian, who sold them to New Line. Sean S. Cunningham wanted to reacquire the rights to Friday the 13th and begin working with New Line on Freddy vs. Jason. Two years after initial talks fell apart, director Joseph Zito attempted to revive the project, but neither Mancuso nor Robert Shaye were interested in pursuing the project. Follow me and ponder the question, "What if...?"

Genuinely insane that it took this movie to happen THIS long.

Tom McLoughlin of *"Friday the 13th*
*Part VI: Jason Lives"* & Joseph Zito
of *"Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter"*
doing a *"Freddy vs Jason"* film either in
the late 80s or early 90s?

Aw, if only either one had been made.

Plus, Kane Hodder's Jason going
up against Robert Englund's Freddy
would've been a blast to see.
