According SMSL's website this has a remote sensor in it so all you would need are the IR codes and then you could program a remote to work with this. I bet it would work with any SMSL remote.

Your on the money with the comment about being in a new generation of amazing gear for the money. In my day we had to suffer with Lloyds, Yorx and Sears. I'm 61 and an audiophile of 40 years. Getting into audio in the 70's I drooled over stuff. I NOW have a Marantz 2230, but in retrospect to what's new out there, absolutely WOW, for virtually little money and some good research you can source out a modest digital system which sounds high end. I still have cd's and will always buy cd's and have lp's too, but my focus is on a decent digital front end as I know what's possible for little money and man how far we've come in 35 years of commercial digital gear. Thanks so much for this review

I agree cheap DACs today unbelievable today! But the best is yet to come. Wait 2-5 years build quality, features, sound quality and price should be way, way better then. A very expensive Chord today could equal $100 DAC 3 years from now.

just for anyone wondering. SMSL has been updating some of their older stuff.
The old SMSL M6 has the same dac as this one. So you get a few missing things on the m100 for that 49-69 dollars (depending on what price you get on the m6 and on the m100) extra you pay for the m6.
Still downside of the m6 is that darn little 4 way toggle button. Thankfully it does have a remote now. So that eliminates that issue. Unless you hate remotes.

Maybe time for a re-review?
As far as I can tell only the aliexpress sellers have the upgraded version. The amazon sellers are still advertised as the same and cost the same. But could be the new version and they haven't bothered updating the listings.

I have a big knob studio > liquid spark > m1060 & shp9500. I feel like I should add this in there because the sound coming out of my buddy's Topping MX3 was kind of better than the big knob, but I love that thing and don't want to get rid of it.

Is there going to be a version of this with a headphone amp? Smsl m3 is on discount, like they're planning to get rod of stock before new one comes out.

SMSL Sanskrit 10th anniversary does exactly what you say for not much more money. Comes with a remote. Just make sure you use the Auxillary power USB port even if you are using the usb to your PC. You get better performance with it - Check audio science review forum. Just run a USB cable from the sanskrit aux to a standard usb wall plug (5v - 1 amp).

Damn Audio-Technica is dirty. If I want detachable cables on the AD line I either A) Mod a set or B) Spend $2400 for the ADX5000.

The echo-location feature of the brain can bring you on par with 190 khz, (we can detect a wall down to 5ms thus minimal distance from tweeter to floor, walls, ceiling is 85cm) while heard frequency ceiling is around 20khz. So we might imagine some justifications for 190 ish khz. thermal noise floor on full volume balanced 2 volts is 19bits, there is no justification for anything above 20 bits of depth (for any volume issue). All the problems in audio either come from bad recording or mixing of the audio material, OR from filters that differ from device to device and in the same device from rate to rate or from depth to depth. As a quick example : play pink noise to a crappy macbook dac, then change from 16 to 24 bits and look at the different frequancy responce (even you can hera a huuuuge difference) the sound is totally different from one setting to the other. The same is true for any DAC. On a good one even on the same dac you should not hear any difference from one khz or bit setting to the other while playing the same track or signal, because all shout have the same filter strategy/result.
