Magleen, a subsistence farmer, used the $1,000 she received to build a house. “Now I have a good home that’s not leaking. I am happy.” Finland and Canada are also experimenting with universal income provision. Alan Kreuger hopes that success in Kenya will transfer to western nations. “We’ll see how much we can extrapolate from the fields here in Kenya to other contexts.”

Giving in small amounts is inherently good, but giving TOO much away to strangers can alter an economic model for the worst (preventing a cobbler's business by giving shoes for free etc)

These Kenyans were very resourceful - obviously I love seeing that mother do well and her children flourish.

Our earth has enough resources that no one should go without their basic needs taken care of. This report is wonderful and gives me sense of hope for humanity.

Forgot to mention Australia which also had a large scale long running basic income experiment quite some time ago.

In reality, Africa is far more generous to the West than West are to it. ...

Interesting experiment, whatever our feelings towards its potential outcomes are. But a point will have to come someday when large parts of the world are not dependent upon Europeans for security, money, infrastructure, medicine and food. I doubt that day will come anytime soon and all the while as we hand over billions, the populations of these countries are growing rapidly.

I am no "economist". but I wonder if there could be any negative consequences at all of ... money for nothing, chicks for free!
East Africa is the fastest growing market for guiness ale. If I were to guess which entities are most likely to benefit from UBI in Kenya, I would put alcohol sellers as no 1.

Why the did the Woman in the beginning of the video have 5 kids? if she can barely afford to take care of them. What kind of logic is that? this video is a joke honestly.

and the irony? capitalism did this through VOLUNTARY donations, and not taxes.

if you cant feed more then you and your husband then dont get kids, but if you can afford only 1 kid dont get 2-3-4-5 kids, normal thinking. thats why the west is on the rim when most only get 1 kid, but most ppl dont get more kids just so others have to pay for it. use your brains.

Cash in this case = more kids, which = more poverty.
