Today (12.11.2022) I am celebrating five years of being cancer-free. In 2016 - at age 24 - I got diagnosed with Primary Mediastinal B - cell lymphoma which is a rare aggressive type of Non-Hodgkin lymphoma. I remember it like yesterday and honestly life has never been the same since.

Surviving cancer is a unique and lonely experience. No two people will have the same path from diagnosis to remission - everyone has different treatments, joys, sorrows, thoughts, emotions, and experiences. I think each experience deserves to be recognised and every day is worth celebrating.

In honour of my five years remission I am sharing my story with cancer. From right before I got diagnosed up till now and how it still effects me on a daily base. This is something I have never done before - tell my story from start till end. I am so proud of the production but I am also having a hard time watching it. Sharing a time in my life when I was most vulnerable.

As I support the Cancer Council Queensland and Dutch Cancer Council (KWF 🇳🇱) my hope is to inspire you: (young) cancer survivors or patients currently going through all of it. I want to give you hope and something to hold on to. To know that there is light at the end of the tunnel. But also everyone in between - affected by cancer or not. To inspire you to live your life to the fullest and never ever take your health for granted.

With love,
Sylvia
