Motorcycle Helmet Fitting Guide - How to make sure your helmet fits properly!

I've thought about making a Motorcycle helmet fitting guide for some time, but ideally, I wanted to get a professional involved. So when the chance came up to work with an Arai technician I had to take it. I thought the best way to cover the subject was to just let him go through the process as he would with a Racer or customer. So in this video, we cover the basics of sizing, what to look out for and avoid, right through to custom fitting for the very best helmet fit possible. Not only does that lead to a more comfortable lid, but it also adds huge safety benefits too. You can find out more about Arai, their philosophy and products here;

A big thanks to my channel partners for their continued support;

Of all of the helmet fittings I have seen, Wish Motorcycle shops would have a lounge for coffee and watch such a video.

Fit is king! I went to pick up my new Shoei RF-1400 yesterday. I had to order the color I wanted (Balast Grey) in Large. The Large was somewhat too loose and we explored ordering thicker liners, however they had a Medium helmet in stock that I was able to try on and it was a much better fit. So I returned the Large and ordered the Medium in the color I wanted. It’s best to wait for the right fit, then to walk out of the store with an ill fitting lid that you can’t return later. Trust me…. Been there, done that!

Very Very informative video. I learned more in this video than I care to admit. I first and foremost found out I don't know how to use my tape measure and I sew, 😂😂. I am a large not a medium like I thought. Best video on helmet sizing I have found. Thank you

Looks like I've been buying the wrong helmet size my whole biking life and I've literally just ordered another before watching this!!

Just received my new XD4 and found the information quite helpful. I measure 60.5 cm and ordered the XL which fit well at the forehead but a little loose at the cheek pads. This video helped me fine tune the fit. Thank you for an excellent fitment video.

This is the best fitment guide on YouTube. My head is exactly 57 cm in circumference. I’ve measured in different ways, different parts, loosely, tightly, and I always get either 57 cm or darn close to it. This puts me in a medium shell in nearly every manufacturer. However, in the few helmets I’ve used, I’ve had differing results. Biltwell’s medium just chokes my head out, but their large is just too large. I think it’s because the Biltwell Gringo is just so stiff and has very little padding. It was like I was wearing just the eps shell and nothing else. So now I’ve just purchased a medium Shoei RF1400 and it feels quite nice, but spending that much on my helmet has me worried that I didn’t buy the right size. I’ve tried on many different ones now and even a large in the Shoeis but it’s the same thing, the large just seems too big, I’m just terrified that I’m going to run into the same problem with the medium Shoei I just bought that I had with the Biltwell. Ugh. I think maybe I need to get some thinner cheek pads or something.

Now this is what I call a detailed fitment review. I love Arai and wouldn't wear any other lid

I always say buying a helmet is like buying shoes, you have to try it on, take the time to go to dealer, line a few up that you like and within your budget and try them on, do the little checks as outlined in the video and see what fits the best ( there's a few new checks that I will be doing now because of this video ) Great idea getting an expert in to show us all how to do this, and not trying to do it yourself and maybe not outlining these checks and ( with the best intentions ) misguiding people to a degree without even realising it, Personally I would not recommend buying a helmet online, always try them on in a shop when ever possible .

Great video Tony. I often have simular problems and end up with about 3-4 helmets before I get one that fits, and then still go back to my old Shoei.

That was the best, most comprehensive helmet video I've seen. Well done. I've made several expensive mistakes with buying a size too small then hoping it would break in. It never did. I had measured my head when I was younger at 58cm but never measured it again. After a few wrong choices and horrible forehead headaches, I realised I should measure my head again. I was getting 61.5cm which shocked me. So I needed an XL in most brands. I chose Bell for their great Sharp results (and other test results) and my Bell Race Star fits like a dream. I tried some of the tests suggested in this video and it fits well. I'd like the option of different size liners but I'm not sure if Bell offers them. Anybody know?

Very interesting I always buy Shoei because a large fits perfectly however I did buy a Arai in large and gave up in the end obviously after watching this I needed a XL 😊
