This adaptation is great but has two major problems, namely the lack of Extra/Unlimited to give context, and the first episode of the anime. Dont get me wrong, the first episode was fantastic, but it set the expectations for a lot of people that the characters would be fighting the BETA right away, and that doesn't happen until the second part of the story, and that alienated a lot of people. Other than that, I was surprised by how they managed to adapt most of the important elements of the VN without having to modify stuff like crazy. It would have been a 10/10 if the issues mentioned before were adressed

The BETA are still the scariest antagonists of any media and nothing can convince me otherwise. When fighting them, characters always die, and even when they lose they always win.

I'm extremely happy to see this franchise getting the kind of love it's gotten recently, because all of it is extremely well told. It's got everything you could ever want from a series. Lots of waifus (who are all great characters), a hero who isn't perfect but tries his best, absolutely horrifying antagonists, romances that all feel genuine, some of the best lewd scenes you'll ever see this side of the original Fate/Stay Night and Fate/Hollow Atraxia (which we won't be seeing here, obviously. You need to play the games for that. But I'm sure they'll make up for it somehow). And of course God-tier mecha action. Muv-Luv is genuinely one of the best VN series I've ever played.

Pro-tip: Play the first two games first, before watching this. You need the experience of all the romance routes, and more so you need to experience the tone shift from Extra to Unlimited before tackling Alternative. Also, Unlimited sets the stage for Alternative in so many ways.
