NBA Jam (Series) ALL Arcade Secret Characters

A video highlighting all of the secret players in the NBA Jam arcade games. Due to licensing, Midway could not use the "Jam" name after Tournament Edition but Hangtime and Showtime are considered part of the series. Even though Extreme was made by Acclaim and sometimes not considered part of the series, I have included it here.

Due to a recent dump of Midway source files, I was able to find out that the code for Matt Bettleman in NBA Maximum Hangtime is MATT_B 0184.

I can confirm that no players are missing as I've looked through the code with MAME cheats and a hex editor in the case of Showtime. Dennis Rodman can be used on any team in NBA Showtime by entering RODMAN 9676. He is the only standard roster player with a code in Showtime so I didn't bother to make a separate section in the video.

Bill Clinton, Fresh Prince, The Beastie Boys, etc. were only in the home editions and therefore not featured here.

Creating players in NBA Hangtime was so much fun. My cousin and I would create big, fat guys who had no stats whatsoever and it was the funniest thing ever. So many hours spent laughing hysterically. Great memories!

The reason why the following hidden characters were removed:

Lorraine Olivia was removed because she appeared nude in Playboy magazine. The NBA thought it would've been inappropriate to have her in this kid-friendly game.

Kerri Hoskins (the same reason why Lorraine Olivia was removed)

Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden and Reptile were removed, because the NBA did not want NBA Jam associated with such a violent game series like Mortal Kombat.

Kongo was removed, because it was looked upon as a racial stereotype (think about it)

Elvislicious was taken out, because all things Elvis were copyrighted, which the developers of the game, didn't have the rights for.

Grim Reaper was removed, because it was deemed too disturbing for younger players of the game.

I remember reading in Gamepro about the Beastie Boys, or at least MCA, being in Tournament Edition at one point. I also remember back in the day when my now former church would meet at a community center in town before it got its own building. One weekend an event was held where an NBA Jam Tournament Edition cabinet had been placed at the center and was still there that Sunday, so several of us went over and played it after church. I put in the code to play as John Tobias and was part of the winning team. That Sunday was a blast.

Man I knew they had to take out Mortal Kombat characters in NBA Jam TE after the first couple of versions, but didn't know they also removed a bunch of other characters, even Kerri Hoskins (later Sonya in MK3)
