In a country with ten thousand homeless people and a housing crisis, Dublin City Council rejected a plan to build 850 new homes in Coolock which would have cost taxpayers almost nothing. Ben Scallan reacts.

Don't blame them..who would want that many social houses..it'll just be a big getto like the majority of social housing areas.

There’s enough empty houses in this city. Cheaper to fix them up

We have elected left wing politicians who canvassed on a platform for new housing. Now they rejected a proposal for 850 houses. They want to get the government and city council to build housing. The government and the council are totally incapable of executing this project, all you have to do is look at the children's hospital and the fiasco that is. At the next election you know what to do.

Great report again Ben. I'm trying to play devil's advocate as to why DCC wouldn't accept... I can't think of any reason. There might be some inside story like the developer going back on their word, but 250/850 social housing sounds pretty good. Saw you in Supervalue 2 weeks ago. You and I were the only 2 not wearing masks! I'll say 'hi' next time if you don't looked rushed. I'd like to pass on some thanks and encouragement in person.
