I have been watching videos of a building contractor who builds high end houses and when the exterior finish is stucco he insists that a rainscreen mat or furring strips be used to create an air space behind the stucco to allow moisture to drain out. What do you think of this?

Kirk.. I was in a jamb and had to cover my new ( unpermitted) foundation wall before the inspector stopped by to inspect a broken culvert pipe in my yard. I wet the wall and did a scratch coat and a " finish" coat in type S mortar... Will it last? I'm painting it with dry lock

Kirk, thanks for sharing your expertise with us all. Thanks to your videos I have just completed my first stucco attempt. Finished the scratch coat and now it looks like rain on and off for the next week. Is it OK to wait this long (over a week) to apply the brown coat? Should I hydrate the scratch coat during this time? I am matching on a house with painted stucco so doing two coats, letting it cure for 28 days and then matching the pain. Thanks again!!

Hey Kirk, I’ve been watching your videos for a while now. Quick question.
For your brown coats, would you recommend adding fiberglass to the mix? With your years of experience, does it really make a difference? We all know all stucco/concrete cracks but does it really make a difference?
