How To Grow Cucumbers Part 2 - Replanting

Time To Move Your Cucumber Seedlings On! Growing Cucumbers Part 2. Cucumbers are one of the most popular garden crop of all time. They are easy to grow, but do not transplant well, so you have to move the plugs on specifically when those first true leaves pop out.

If you live in the Northern Hemisphere, your growing season is finite, and often too short to properly ripen Cucumbers that are directly seeded into the garden. Starter plants are expensive, so you need a plan! The plan is simple, start your own Cucumber seeds indoors, now during the winter, to get a head start on spring planting!

In this video, I show you how to move those Cucumber seedlings on from the plug trays to 4 inch standard nursery pots, so that you can be ready for spring, and have as many Cucumber starter plants as your garden can handle. The method works for any variety, and the strategies mentioned here are useful to beginners and veteran green thumbs alike!

I love your videos. They're short, well-edited, and informative. That said, cukes and squash are so fickle. so like you, I handle with care. To avoid transplant shock, I never re-planted, but usually, start them in the larger pots. Your method could help ease any pressure under the grow lights, though.

PS. This year, I'm experimenting with soil blocks on my tender-rooted plants that don't transplant well, like cucurbits, peas... even nasturtiums and zinnia, which I grow for the bees. So far, so good. And they're more space efficient than the larger pots and the air-pruning ends up allowing the plant to grow large without getting root-bound. Keeping my fingers crossed.

This is really helpful. My cucumber plants are slowing down now after the “baby” leaves came out. And I think it’s the size of the cell that’s hindering them. I didn’t know how quickly they like to grow
