News reporting WAS SO DIFFERENT in that era. I remember news stories were actual stories & not "sound bites" used now. Brokaw was one of many great journalists which is rare today.

Back in the day( Not dare saying how long that is. ) I used to have a small crush on Tom Brokaw. It ended when I found out my mother also had a crush on him. Awkward!

This man is a legend. Canada remembers when he did a segment on us after 9/11, specifically thanking us for our contributions in the days and weeks after the attack. He has a calming voice that is reassuring, even in the face of great turmoil.

My middle school history teacher had us do "current events" summaries on Brokaw's Nightly News every single day.

Remember when Obama's campaign manager, his pick for National Security Adviser, his long-time personal lawyer, his "coffee boy, " and his oldest political adviser all went to jail within the first 3 years of his presidency?🤔
Yeah, neither do I. 😆😅

The most critical difference is that the GOP still had a soul and 100 million Americans didn't turn a blind eye to Nixon's crimes.

I know the "movie star" usually gets first billing and "the guy with a book" gets second, but come on, it's Tom F-ing Brokaw

Tom Brokaw is still a cutie...and his gravely voice is just a bonus. Very cool to see him still on TV sharing his knowledge.

He blamed social media for the commodification of news. As the airwaves that were a public property were eclipsed by cables laid by private companies and the bandwidth grew, the public imperative for news lost to the greed of 24 hour "news" businesses. It's hard to tell the story of the game when you are still an active player...

We will regret - it will happen - Trump thinks he has America in a bag and 2020 is his - Republicans and Trump were never good on maths - America is a collection of people from all over the world - and the world is the majority - the world will not vote for Trump - why? because Trump is everything the world does not need.

I love to hear the perspective of veterans of industries - be it film, TV, news, etc. Their insight, as wonderfully exemplified by Tom Brokaw here, their insights are always so sharp, and paint a picture of how far, in either direction, we as a people and as a nation have come. Brokaw's assessment of today's 24/7 news cycle and the prolific use of social media to advance that news is mind-boggling. Like he said, it is dangerous because most of it is not verifiable and those absorbing it don't know where it is coming from. We are doomed!

He had some amazing points that the audience and Stephen didn’t want to acknowledge or admit to

We need measured news and outlets like this again, apart from PBS. Not enough critical thinkers at the moment eh

I wonder if the 18 minutes of tape that was "erased" can be retrieved through today's technology.

Watching this guy talks is like watching a character in a Martian Scorsese movie .. he has this smooth loosen tone .
His way of telling a story feels like it has been scripted in a play ..
