Been using 301B HG for a few months now. Not really any different to previous model when it gets down to fishing with it. The side plate is much better sealed, but is a right pain to put back on. The reel does feel a bit more solid and cosmetically I prefer the new version. The external dial on it is hopeless though, as I find it very difficult to move the dial. Not all of us have fingernails like a guitar player and on a cold day, forget it. Best to set it half way and leave it there. I've not had any trouble with the reel tripping into gear on the cast, as some folk have reported to have had with the previous reel. Don't get me wrong, this new Tranx is excellent - use mine for pike fishing in the UK and EU but I wouldn't sell all my Tranx to get this new version, the 'improvements' are very minor.

After your video I got a scorpion 300 from japan and love it..I use it for 2-6oz. swimbaits and it handles them great and very smooth...thanks for doing that video.

Preordered mine last week on TW. Should be delivered later this week. Gonna keep my old 300A and use it for slow pitch jigging. Way better looking than the Scorpion imo.

I got mine last week and did a side by side in hand. This is by far the most improved Shimano reel in yrs if not ever and not have a price increase. Its smaller and lighter than the Tranx 300A which is already a great reel. Even the power handle feels better. I paid $280 from tackle world so it was like $35 less than I paid for the Tranx 300A. It feels the same as my Antarres Dc xg md in hand with a power handle

Great vid. Just need them to replace the 400 and 500 now. I’m a musky guy and the 500 is my most used reel. It’s still the most durable reel on the musky market but if I remember correctly it’s 13 years old and could definitely use some updating. Awesome reel but at almost 20 ounces I’d love something smaller

Looks like the handles are removable on them 8’ rods. That’s a Sick setup I’m sure they’ll great.

you know the tranx heritage was actually a saltwater reel.
that big 500, was one badass! problem was there were just so damn expensive. yeah I had one. and caught tarpon and sharks on it

I went with the scorpion version you get a few more bearings and the same xg 7.6 ratio which is good for glides

I’m curious about that 7’9” MH+ Outlier. Ben said that would be a perfect TK/175 size swimbait rod. Pair that with a 200 size reel and I think that setup would be dialed. Lifetime warranty on the rods is super appealing compared to importing something like the kaleido “Grand Stallion”

7.0 somewhere in there is perfect and even more is ok bc the trick to catching these giant bass on these big ass baits with 1/0 and 2/0 hooks is to surf them in horse them in do whatever ya gotta do bc I missed so many and still do trying to fight them bc it’s just so much more fun and in some cases it’s what ya have to do if ya have to I guess but these giants can just power right off those big hooks with ease it seems like if your not actively pulling on them instead of them pulling on you.

Shimano is going to give these custom swimbait rod companies a problem with the rod and reel combos!! That new Tranx and the Outlier is absolutely unreal for the money!
