This was one of my first takedowns as a kid…1991 and was 11 years old.
The problem you can run into is that a good wrestler will use the leg you just stepped through as a leg in and off their butt will take your back. Pretty easy to go to the crotch and get his shoulder out of the pocket.
It still can work though. Everything is about timing and knowing what options you and he have from there.
In regards to the drag, some of the highest level coaches teach to drag at the elbow. John Smith teaches that. You’re supposed to drag off his pressure forward. So you are just directing his movement, not forcing him. Otherwise he will pull back and even an armpit drag won’t work. I don’t think about it all that much, because the armpit really isn’t what makes it work as much as it is his “push” (forward pressure) and misdirection.
I personally have been taught it both ways, both by high level olympians. John Smith does it at the elbow, whereas my coach, Andy Seras, does it in the armpit. John and Andy both wrestled on the Olympic team in 1988.

Wish someone could make a Zoolander style movie but about Grappling. Will Ferrell as Craig Jones and Channing Tatum as Nicky Rod etc. At this point in reality, the script writes itself already.

It's Ko Uchi Makikomi. And every time I see a video of this technique being done, there's guaranteed to be a BJJ dude saying in the comments "You are going to get choked doing that!"

Haisam was teaching at the school across the street from mine and as a white belt rolling with him is the most degrading feeling

@2:11"Then from there it's fairly easy to just drive with my shoulder and sit my partner down...". Not against a 6'5" inch athletic monster. Nicky still had to work pretty hard to take him down after the shoulder drive. Great takedown!
