Video: Tiger charges at little boy at Dublin Zoo

A big sheet of glass saved a little boy in Ireland from becoming a tiger's prey.

Luckily for this Irish youngster, there was a big sheet of glass between him and a full-sized Siberian tiger when his family made a Christmas visit to Dublin Zoo on Dec. 22.

Classic tiger charge:

The tiger sneaks up on the oblivious little boy, but immediately freezes when the boy looks back at it (point 0:11). When the boy looks away, the tiger immediately commences his attack. The park rangers in India, who monitor the population of tigers, wear masks on the BACK of their heads, because most tigers will only attack from the back side as proved by this tiger, who charges the minute the boy looks away from it.

It's cute how the tiger freezes while the boy looks at him and then charges the second his back is turned. Just like a house cat does. ☺️

*Edit:* I did not mean it's cute that a tiger would harm a child. I thought that went without saying. Apologies to anyone who took offence with that. I'm a mom, I have two beloved teenagers... AND 3 cats. Cats, toddlers and tigers are all adorable to me. 💁❤️

You notice when the boy looked back at the tiger, the tiger got perfectly still. Then immediately after the boy turned his boy, the tiger attacked. An awesome display of an apex ambush predator's instincts.

Although nothing has happened in this case I'll say this:

Here in Brazil a kid lost his arm to a tiger because of his own negligence and his parents. I can't recall exaclty how it happened, but it happened. These are wild animals, bigger, stronger, with hunting instincts. They're not domestic cats. People need to learn to respect and to not treat them as "entertainment". It's not because their captive that they're entertainment. Specific circunstances make some of them having to live in captive for their own well being.
