Celebrating 10 years of The Smiler, Festival Of Thrills returns to Alton Towers for 2023! This year, The Smiler will be taking over the resort! In this Vlog I check out what this event has to offer including, two different stage shows in X-Sector. This event sees the return of many characters from the Smiler backstory including the Ministry Of Joy. Alongside that, The Smiler has taken over other areas of the park including Dark Forest, Forbidden Valley and Wicker Man! To say this even was weird is a understatement...

Festival Of Thrills Smiler Takeover:

Ministry of Joy, The Smiler’s secretive organisation, will take over X-Sector to conduct a series of mind-bending assignments! From laughter therapy with the Smiling Advocates and optical illusions to boggle the brain in The Lab, to facing your fears in their unique fear test.

The Smiler:

The Smiler is a world-renowned roller coaster located in the Alton Towers Resort in Staffordshire, UK. It's a record-breaking ride with an impressive 14 inversions, which makes it the roller coaster with the most inversions in the world. The ride time is around 165 seconds, during which riders experience extreme excitement, screams, loops, drops, twists, and turns. One of the most thrilling features of the Smiler is the vertical drop at the beginning of the ride, which creates an instant rush of adrenaline for the thrill-seekers on board. The actors did a great job at bringing their characters to life, in my opinion! (I especially loved Agent Joytide) I've never BEEN to Alton Towers, so I can't say much, but I quite liked what I saw.

That thumbnail caught me of guard not going to lie 💀 Imagine oblivion turning into the smiler, your just going upside down 14 times and theres about 2 people hanging over the edge of the track on each side 🤣

totally agree with you this event is kinda shambles. the people doing the entertainment are great, they are just following what alton towers wants them to do, which isnt great. I would rather they used the money to really clean up the smiler instead of the event. but theres no reason they cant keep the theming in x-sector and like you said put it in the smiler queue. and btw the letters spell out 'thrills'

I totally agree with what you said, the stage shows are decent but have nothing to do with the smiler/the smiler's birthday and the rest of the park have had absolutely nothing despite it being called a "takeover". At least the diaramas outside of the rides have a little bit of effort but that doesnt excuse the lack of effort elsewhere

I did quite like the fear test show, great work from all the entertainers at this years event but I do wish there'd been more music like last year. Next years festival if thrills is definitely going to be celebrating the return of nemesis for the big 30.

Although this event looks good, I worry for people who might have sensory issues. It’s loud enough as is- but it’s gonna be so loud and overwhelming.
