I love how this is an actual accurate representation of a ship's hull and not some 2x4's and plywood somebody nailed together.

Let me say "Hi! And greetings from Drachinifel"😀

So in this test we have Vasa’s replica canon targeting her replica hull. Some people have the best jobs.

Given the amount of particulate smoke from just one gun, imagine the choking fog from a rolling broadside of two combatants, not to mention the noise, body destroying solid shot and and lethal splinters. Close range naval warfare must indeed have been hideous.

Jesus man, the smoke, the ear-shattering noise. I couldn't begin to imagine 40 of those things firing at once, alongside other ships doing the same, in the middle of the ocean. Artistic depictions of battles such as the one in the cape of Trafalgar are beyond otherworldly, but to actually have been there I don't think a word exists to describe such an experience.

Martin Granberg: "First we blow up this hull section..."
Drachinifel: "Then, I blow up the video..."

No wonder artillery fragments are called splinters. It's actually inherited terminology.

Even the sound pressure wave would be pretty damaging from that.
Imagine being inside a closed space with timbers like that all around when it hit - a bit like being inside a double-bass when someone hits it with a stick but scaled up by several orders of magnitude, while the internal volume is filled with splinters varying in size from matchwood to 30Kg flying around at transonic speed. Brutal,
No wonder damage assessment was often done by looking for the blood running from the scuppers - a small(ish) hole on the outside with a cone of deadly blast and splinters on the inside.

Well done! Thank you very much! No BS! The most accurate depiction I have seen!

Drach sent me here, and I'm sure glad he did!

The splinters are even more terrifying than the ball.

As horrifying as the stories from combat of the age make it sound, seeing it takes it to a whole new level.

Get ready for the Drach Pack to swarm this video asap

Damn powerful. You can see why so many wood splinter injuries. Amazing experimental archeology. 😁👍

Superb filming.
Does justice to the objective of demonstrating the, largely hitherto, ignorance of just how destructive solid shot was to wooden hulls.

seen so many cannon videos only shooting like a 1/6 charge.. this was a treat to see.

Impressive, what kind of wood is that model ship side made from?

How much powder where you using? After seeing that clip I can’t Imagine being on the receiving end of the thing!
But that would be a Awesome sight seeing a full broadside.
