The modern world (especially in the West) has gotten great at removing sources of discomfort. Yet, in many ways, this has backfired, leaving us anxious and increasingly incapable of dealing with the inevitable uncertainty of life.

Rather than seeking to add more mental padding around reality, we would be better off questioning what it means to be comfortable and healthy (especially zooming out to see that short-term discomfort leads to the exact long-term growth we want).
