Status Quo's Rick Parfitt may not return to band over heart fears

Rock guitarist Rick Parfitt has revealed how he narrowly survived a massive heart attack, but it may cost him his career.

He has been forced to quit playing with Status Quo until next year at the earliest, and fears a return to the stage could kill him.

Parfitt hasn't played guitar for three months and has told Sky News the full story about his collapse, shortly after a concert in Turkey in June.

The legacy that Parfitt and Rossi created over the last 50 years is testament to the fact that these guys are amazing. Rick has every right to take it easy now. Francis Rossi also has every right to continue touring as Status Quo. I hope that they both live long and happy lives.

I had a medi vac flight turn up at luton airport one night . And Rick was on board standing in what I would call a theatre gown with various drips and pipes hanging out of him . And he still managed to laugh about it . And a lovely man to speak too . A great loss to British music. RIP Mate and god bless

Loved Quo and loved him for his great legacy of music and live shows, seen quo live with Rick 50 odd times and never came away disappointed- Not once. They're still great live but such a shame Rick's Gone, RIP

That's some really sad news, it just won't be Quo without Rick... But fair play to him, he's earned a break after everything that's happened. I don't know how he has the stamina to play the way he does every night, driving it along like steam engine, never missing a beat. One of the greatest rhythm guitarists on the planet.

Have been a Quo fan since I was 10 years old in 1973, and it will be sad that Rick won't be stage right, as always. But, I feel, like many people here, he's paid his dues (and then some), and has nothing left to prove to anyone, least of all himself. Thanks, mate, take a load off and enjoy the Spanish sunshine in a long and happy retirement.
